One of the first questions we wrestled with was how much to ask about children. Exact ages make matching easy, but they’re personal details that don’t need to live in an app.
So Puddle asks about age groups instead: under 5, primary, tween, teenager and young adult. Families say which groups their children are in, and which they’d like to meet.
It’s enough for great matches
When we show you a family, we tell you what you have in common, for example “you both have children in the primary age range” or “you both enjoy woodland walks”. Age groups turn out to be exactly the right level of detail for that.
Less to protect
Data you never collect can’t be leaked or misused. We take the same approach to location in your profile: you choose an area and how far you’ll travel, and we estimate travel times between towns rather than asking for your address.
Your choice, always
Every profile question except your area is optional. Share what you’re comfortable with. The more you share, the better your matches, but it’s always up to you.
